Polymer Sealant - Perma Polyseal

Our specialty product, Perma Polyseal is a high grade expansion joint sealant (two part polysulphide sealant). This fine quality sealant is formulated with care and can be either poured or gunned as per specific application requirement, i.e., depending on whether horizontal or vertical jointing is required. The sealant owes its excellent attribute to the fact it is based on polysulphide resins, curing agents, plasticisers, vulcanizing agents and many standard fillers. The product that forms a uniform mass as soon as the base and curing agents are mixed can be applied on the horizontal expansion joints via simply pouring the mixture. The product can also be carefully gunned when it comes to vertical applications (non slump) in joints.

Primary Uses:

From mending cracked roofs to providing weather resistant joints in water tanks, Perma Polyseal has end number of uses. The product can be used to fix expansion joints, both horizontal and vertical, from 6 mm to 50 mm. Polymer sealant is used for expansion joints, inside / outside. It is perfect for junction of precast components of buildings. It is practical for sealing joints between dissimilar materials - metal, wood and concrete. The sealant is tough, and withstands foot traffic etc.

Directions for Use:

SURFACE PREPARATION:

Before applying Perma Polyseal, it should be ensured that the surface where this sealant needs to be applied is clean and dry. Any form of dirt, dust, corrosion, scale, etc., should be properly removed from the surface before initiating the process of sealant application. The surface should also be free from any kind of protective lacquer or grease that might inhibit the efficiency of the sealant. The joint depth then should be made as per the design that is available. For this, the expansion joint fill material (the bitumen impregnated board) is firmly packed in position that helps in determining the exact joint depth. The depth of joint is usually calculated as half of its width and the exact depth is estimated to be equal to or greater than 6 mm. The Perma Polyseal applied is then prevented from coming into direct contact with the board by using a bond-breaking tape or cello tape that is tightly fixed on the joint fill board. Good quality mask tape is also fixed on both sides of the joint that inhibits any kind of staining.

PRIMING:

For joints with porous or irregular sides, it is recommended that proper priming is done for which a Polysulphide primer can be utilized as a two component material. The two components when properly mixed can be simply applied to the sides of the joint using a brush. Once the primer becomes tack free and settles down, Perma Polyseal can be applied in the joint.

MIXING:

Adequate mixing procedures are then to be followed for which the content of the small curing agent pack is to be transferred to the larger pack of the base. Using correct mixing tools, the content is then mixed thoroughly for not less than five minutes. An electric drill with well designed blades can be used for the process or mixing can be done manually until a paste with the desired consistency is obtained.

APPLICATION:


The mixed Perma Polyseal is then carefully poured into the joints and a rounded spatula or a similar tool is used for giving a smooth and even finish to the poured material and for removing trapped air that might result in poor sealing. It is recommended that the finishing is done on the surface in a slightly concave manner, which will ensure that heavy trolley movements do not affect the sealing done.
